Woman Plunged To Her Death While Taking Photos At Grand Canyon


A woman from Arizona plunged 100 feet to her death while taking pictures at the Grand Canyon while bonding with her family.

59-year-old Maria A. Salgado Lopez died near the South Rim visitors center after the tragic incident that occurred at the west of Mather Point.

In a horrifying video shared online, tourists and fellow hikers are heard screaming and saying people posing for photos on the rim were in danger.

According to the reports, Salgado Lopez had been hiking and taking pictures with her family when she accidentally slipped and fell.

“It was the type of scream that you hear wailing, crying, people shouting ‘no’, that sort of thing, and then, I realized I need to call 911,” Miriam Weiner, one of the witnesses of the terrible accident, said in an interview with WVLT.

“I saw people out in that area start to hug each other, trying to comfort each other and shield them from what they were seeing.”

Following the incident, a GoFundMe page has been set up for the family. The page’s description reads: “Our beloved Mom, Sister, Friend, Aunt has passed away due to an unforeseen accident.

“She is survived by her husband, 2 sons and daughter. This go fund me account has been created with the objective to assist this family with funeral costs. Anything you can contribute will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and God Bless.”

In a statement, the Grand Canyon Regional Communications Center announced: “An investigation into the incident is being conducted by the National Park Service and the Coconino County Medical Examiner’s Office.”
