There are a few milestones in life that are made even more special by sharing it with your loved ones.

Getting engaged is certainly one of them but with the coronavirus pandemic spreading throughout the world right now, it’s not really a good idea to get together in large groups with one’s friends and families.

The elderly are particularly vulnerable which makes it even more important to make sure they don’t inadvertently get exposed.

But thankfully for one woman, the staff at her grandfather’s retirement home managed to find a creative way for her to show off her engagement ring to her dear granddad without breaking the rules on social distancing.

Carly Boyd, 22, had just said yes when her partner proposed to her over the weekend. She very much wanted to visit her granddad at the Premier Living and Rehab Center in Lake Waccamaw but coronavirus concerns prevented that.

But she was dead set on sharing the good news with him and present her engagement ring so she just showed up outside his window so that he could see her.

She told KOLD: “I really wanted to be able to tell my grandfather because he has dementia and there’s no phone in there that he has access to. I just really wanted to make an effort to tell him.”

Carly credited the staff for suggesting the workaround, saying they could “walk around the building and pull the blinds up” so that her grandpa could share the joy with her.

Facility administrator Gennie Parnell took the photos, and they were shared by April Bass, the community activity coordinator, captioning it with: “Coronavirus didn’t stop this granddaughter and grandfather from sharing this happy moment.”

“I got really emotional and really sad and I just put my hand on the window, and he put his there too. I just told him I love him, and he said, ‘I love you too and I hope to see you soon’ like really see you.”
