26-year-old Olivia Carolee Culbreath broke down in tears after she was sentenced from 30 years to life in jail for killing six people when she crashed while driving under the influence.
One of those people is her sister.
She told the California court: “I ask God every single day to give comfort to those who are hurt by this. I want people to know I would die a million times over again for any one of you.”
Culbreath added: “I’m going to punish myself for the rest of my life. I was so wrong, and I take full responsibility.”
She had been drinking before driving her red Camaro at 100mph down the wrong way of 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar, California.
According to witnesses, she collided with a Ford Explorer that was carrying a family of four, killing everyone inside, along with her two passengers.
The people in the Explorer were Gregorio Mejia-Martinez, 47, Leticia Ibarra, 42, Jessica Jasmine Mejia, 20, and Ester Delgado, 80.
In Culbreath’s vehicle, the victims were her 24-year-old sister Maya Louise Culbreath and friend Kristin Melissa Young, also 24.
Another man, Joel Cortez, was caught in the crash but he survived with minor injuries.
Culbreath pleaded no contest to 6 counts of second-degree murder, and even though her blood alcohol content was 0.15 percent 3 hours after the crash, she wasn’t charged with drunken driving.
According to NBC Los Angeles, between 2010 and 2011, Culbreath had already been convicted of a DUI and had two citations even before the collision.
Her license was reinstated and she was warned future infractions could lead to murder charges.
