Following a trip to the hospital, the couple was shocked to discover that Pingping actually has the male Y chromosome meaning that she was born a man despite missing male genitals.

According to the reports, the intersex individual never suspected she was a man due to having female genitals. The discovery, however, made it clear why she never had a period and why she was unable to get pregnant.

As the South China Morning Post reported, the 25-year-old is now struggling with her gender identity and deliberating her future.

While the woman was taken to a hospital by her mother when she was younger, the doctors simply implied that the lack of menstruation was likely due to the slower development of her body.

“After I grew up, I found this issue quite embarrassing so I didn’t treat it seriously,” the 25-year-old revealed.

It wasn’t until the girl was examined by the doctors after an ankle injury that the truth about her situation has surfaced. After finding the Y chromosome, the doctors informed the young patient that she had no ovaries or uterus, meaning that she couldn’t get pregnant.

The medics also pointed out that the 25-year-old should have been taken to a doctor more often when she was still a teenager.

“It takes a long time to rebuild the social role and reconstruct the family and it’s going to be a painstaking process, where psychological intervention is necessary. But Pingping has not asked for help from us so far,” one of the doctors reportedly said.
