Her funeral was held the next day and they were not able to attend because of COVID-19 protocols.

So when Rogelia returned in good shape at her care home in Xove, Spain, her husband broke down in tears, Spanish newspaper La Voz Galicia reported.

It turned out that Raman Blanco, who also lived at the residence and shared Rogelia’s room, had passed away.

Speaking to the paper, the husband said: “I could not believe it. I was crying, after the death of my wife.”

The San Rosendo Foundation explained that the mix-up over names came after Rogelia tested positive for coronavirus and was transferred to another home with other patients.

“Among the elderly people transferred were two women who were assigned the same room,” the foundation which runs the care home, told the paper.

“An identification error during the process of transfer from Xove to Pereiro de Aguiar led to the death of one of them being certified on Jan. 13, although the identity was wrongly assigned,” it added.

The foundation also expressed its regret for the “unfortunate incident.”

La Voz Galicia quoted them saying: “This is a one-off event, among the more than 100 transfers that have been made since last December to Os Gozos.”

The statement also said that the court had been told to reverse the mishap over Blanco’s death.
