A pregnant woman and her boyfriend were at their home in Texas when 29-year-old Alyssa Brianna Vega, 18-year-old Kiara Paz, and Andrew Nino, also 18, broke into the couple’s home to rob them.
Desire Guardiola, who was 34 weeks pregnant, begged the intruders to spare her and her unborn child. According to the police, her boyfriend didn’t believe that Nino’s gun was real when he took a knife and ran after the burglars.
Nino pointed his weapon at Guardiola’s boyfriend but then shot her in the stomach even though it was clearly visible that she was pregnant.
Neighbors called the police after hearing gunshots being fired and others tried to take care of the couple until emergency services and officers arrived.
Paz stole an Xbox and other items while Nino took Xanax before fleeing the scene. The three have been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
Guardioa was rushed to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center where she was forced to deliver her baby via emergency c-section.
Sadly, baby Emery Skye passed away eight days later.
In the days before she died, Guardola was able to be with her, change her diaper, and bathe her. But they made the heartbreaking decision to turn off her life support to end her suffering.
In a Facebook post, Guardiola wrote: “I am thankful for being able to carry you, love you, spend moments with you. Although our time was cut short I know you are still living in the hearts of many.
“You are ever so loved and you’ve been able to do things I as a woman was never able to do or never thought I’d have the power to do…. Bring people together to love and support one another and have an even stronger faith. You’ve touched the hearts of many lives.”
