92-Year-Old Woman Begged People To Think About Those In Care Homes Before Emptying Supermarket Shelves


92-year-old Lillian Chew from Jasmine Court Care Home has begged people to “think about us in care homes” before stripping supermarket shelves bare.

The elderly woman has lived in the care home for four years and she has issued an emotional plea.

Lillian looked straight into the camera and asked people to think about “these poor, poor people that are on their own,” as well as those who are also in need of essentials.

In her heartbreaking plea, she said: “Hello everyone out there, my name is Lillian. I’m in a care home in Chorley, Lancashire.

“I beg all you people out there, who are going out and clearing the shelves of everything, to think about us in care homes and these poor, poor people that are on their own and can’t get anybody to help them.

“So please, think twice before you go to clear the shelves. Please take care everybody, and God bless you all.”

Her video quickly went viral and people started sending cards and flowers to her care home.

One Facebook user commented: “Well said our Lillian! Comes to something when you have an elderly lady pleading for calm. People should be absolutely ashamed. Bless your cotton socks lovely lady.”

Another wrote: “That’s so sad she’s clearly very worried it sent shivers through me bless her heart but she’s definitely right.”

Emma Bingham, general manager at the home, said: “The reaction to Lillian’s video has been amazing.

“She is thrilled by the response she has received, including cards and well-wishes. As care homes need to protect the health of their residents by limiting visitors, messages to and from the community are invaluable to our residents.”

She added: “Another encouraging outcome has been a number of impressive applications to come and work with us.

“At a time like this, care workers are indispensable and we are welcoming applications from anyone who brings a positive attitude and a passion for care.

“Over the next few months, we have lots of activities planned for our residents to keep them fulfilled and reassured.

“Our residents have all expressed amazement by today’s technology, as we have set up video and telephone facilities so that they keep in touch with their loved ones.”
