A 33-year-old woman who was kicked off a flight for wearing an ‘inappropriate outfit’ claims she was ejected for being a ‘fat, tattooed, and mixed-race’ woman.
Ray Lin Howard from Fairbanks, Alaska, claims she was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight and questioned about her attire, which consisted of shorts and a crop top.
In the video she shared on TikTok, she said: “I’m being harassed and now I’m being detained.”
“I wore an outfit. That’s what happened,” she said in the video, which accumulated thousands of comments and 1.3 million views.
In the clip, Howard can be seen telling an officer that she was initially wearing a sports bra before a crew instructed her to put on a shirt.
“Then they approached me again, saying I can’t wear this, my stomach is showing, and it’s inappropriate,” she added.
The flight attendant then called the cops after Howard told the crew: “If you’re going to kick me off, kick me off. I’ve done what you asked me to do, I want you to leave me alone.”
Howard, a recording artist, can be heard asking the officer to let her go as she was on her way to perform at a show.
The officer then acknowledged that she did not seem to have committed any offenses.
“I felt like I was being discriminated against for being a fat, tattooed, mixed-race woman, which in turn left me full of emotions like anger, disappointment, helplessness, humiliation, and confusion,” Howard said.
In another TikTok video, Howard showed the outfit she wore on the Alaska Airlines flight.
“Throughout my life as a fat person, I’ve had to deal with fatphobia, especially growing up in the Midwest, but not to this degree,” she said.
The singer was eventually released and she managed to make it to her show.
