Pregnancy usually indicates the beginning of another phase in a woman’s life as it brings many changes, including nausea, cravings, body shape, and working arrangements.
Expecting women have probably been told to ‘enjoy the journey’ as their bodies become a miracle of nature.
But one mom never got the chance to have a nine-month preparation as she had no idea that she was pregnant this whole time.
Samantha Vallance, 32, thought she was only bloated when she felt a sudden sharp pain in her side. She ran to the toilet in the middle of the night without knowing that she was already going into labor.
The mother from Doncaster shouted for her husband to help her out as she unexpectedly gave birth to their baby in the bathroom.
Her quick-acting husband, Richard, managed to catch the baby before he had the chance to call emergency services.
“We were in bed in the early hours and Sam got up to go to the toilet,” Richard shared.
“She said she felt a sharp pain down below, next thing she is shouting me saying she was having a baby. I was stunned.
“Sure enough when I got there baby was starting to show so I quickly got some towels and caught the baby coming out.”
Richard continued: “It was a very rapid birth. It was too late to ring an ambulance so I checked the babies breathing and it appeared healthy and normal.
“I helped Sam lay down and then kept checking on baby while I rang the ambulance.”
An ambulance arrived shortly and the mother and baby were rushed to a hospital for checkup.
Richard said that Samantha had no signs of pregnancy and she was on a contraception injection. However, she had been a little bloated and they thought it was only IBS.
“In the few moments it had taken between her calling me and then seeing the baby I didn’t believe her,” Richard continued.
“I thought it might be a joke at first.”
The family received help from family, friends, and strangers who donated cribs, blankets, milk, hats, bibs, shoes, and more.
