A yarn artist recently shared a beautiful, colorful aquarium made out of yarn, and it quickly gained thousands of likes and positive comments online.
59-year-old Linda Di Martino from Italy filled a glass container with stunningly detailed sea plants and animals that she crocheted all by herself.
Linda made the most out of coronavirus lockdown and shared updates showing how she slowly decorated the tank with crocheted items.
“My name is Linda Di Martino, I live in Abruzzo, Italy,” the artist told Bored Panda. “I am a simple 59-year-old housewife who has always been passionate about crochet [and] lace.”
Speaking about her online beginnings, Linda said: “About 10 years [ago], I have entered the world of internet and [Facebook]. I met many crochet enthusiasts and shared many [works] and ideas.”
Linda also shared that it was in 2019 when she came up with the idea of crochet aquariums.
“For the hobby markets last summer I created small aquariums,” she shared, “at that point, the marine world was whipping in my head”. And since she had an empty aquarium at home, it only seemed like a matter of time since she filled it with beautiful creations.”
She told Bored Panda: “For 25 years we have always had an aquarium with fish at home … very demanding to clean and maintain. Unfortunately, in the spring I lost my husband.
“So during the last summer the aquarium remained so, like my life, meaningless. The fish started to die, so one day looking at him I said ‘when the last fish dies, I will do it all in crochet, I will leave a nice memory of me to the children, not a commitment to stay behind.’”
Linda used the internet to search for patterns for different sea animals and plants. “Everything seemed real,” she expressed.
