Virginia-based Laura Seymour first noticed the distressed akita around one year ago when she saw the dog chained to a tree.

Since then, the woman had been visiting the dog and feeding her on a regular basis. As she added, the pooch, who was allegedly chained to the tree nonstop regardless of the weather conditions, would always get excited upon seeing her car.

While Laura alerted animal control on multiple occasions, the officials informed her that they couldn’t do anything because the dog was provided with food, water, and a dog house.

Nevertheless, the woman refused to give up on the pooch and continued to entertain her and feed her for one year.

Eventually, after several more calls to the animal control, Laura was finally informed that the owner of the akita was told to hand over the pooch due to neglect.

“As soon as I found out she was five I was like, that’s awesome, yay, I got so much time with her, but then again, I can’t believe she went through sleeping outside 24-7 and in the mud. It rained, it snowed, and she was just sleeping outside in the mud,” Laura recalled in an interview with The Dodo Soulmates.

“I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh I have to take this dog.’ I’m gonna have to steal it, I’m gonna have to do something for it. I was like, ‘No I’ll go to jail for this dog.’”

Fortunately, both the dog’s and Laura’s dreams appeared to have come true as the pooch finally moved in with the woman and received a new name – Takia.
