36-year-old Kenan Basic was accused of sexual assault, spent weeks in prison and lost his relationship after the woman he helped accused him of sexual assault.
Caitlyn Gray, 19, accused Basic of ‘indecently assaulting and stalking’ after he stopped to help her when her vehicle broke down.
Basic spent two hours fixing her car. The surveillance footage shows the two smiling at each other as they are happy that the car is finally fixed.
They eventually parted ways without any problems.
But “Gray told police Basic had allegedly propositioned her for sex in return for his help before he pursued her in the car and later indecently assaulted her at a different location.”
Officers investigating the case called the good samaritan’s behavior ‘predatory.’
Several months later, the truth finally came out. The 36-year-old never assaulted Gray and the teen also confessed to police that she made up the assault story and fabricated evidence.
With all charges against him dismissed, the 19-year-old is now the one with legal problems. She is charged with fabricating evidence, contempt of court, and lying to law enforcement.
Mona Elbaba, a lawyer representing Basic, said: “My client and his family are extremely happy with the outcome.
“He has always maintained his innocence, he’s always said he’s not guilty to the charges, and has vigorously denied the allegations.”
“I understand that there was some CCTV footage which contradicted her version, and the police obtained that footage by mere luck after we asked the police to investigate the matter further, and they did,” Elbaba added. “It’s an extraordinary outcome for my client. Justice has been served and we are very happy with the outcome.”
Basic told media: “Finally this is over, so I am very happy. I always help people, all my life,” he expressed. “And this was the first time a snake bit me.”
He said he will “probably never help again, ya know. I don’t want that to happen again.”
