A 31-year-old woman, who was mocked for her mustache by her ex-boyfriend, is now flaunting her hairy arms on Instagram.
Brenna Pennly, from Idaho, US, used to spend £98-a-month to remove her hair at a local beauty clinic.
She said she was a hairy kid and was very insecure about it.
Brenna said: “A couple commented on how hairy I was – I had a hairy face, legs, and arms – and I became instantly insecure about it. I used to go into school wearing long-sleeved tops, so no one could see my arms.”
When she was 11, she was given a razor by her mother and she instantly became obsessed with shaving. She started shaving her hair every day.
Brenna told her ex-boyfriend used to mock her for her mustache. She said: I did date one guy who told me, ‘You’ve got a moustache,’ in front of his mum, who quickly scolded him for it. But that was my only really negative experience.”
After she found herself spending £98-a-month to remove her hair, she decided to ditch the razor and let her hair grow.
She now shares pictures of her 6cm long armpit hair on Instagram to encourage others to embrace their bodies through her Instagram posts that are mostly about body choice and women having self-love.
She said: “I didn’t want to just be that girl who posted pictures of her armpit hair on Instagram. I wanted to find some meaning in what I was doing.”
She says the women should not shave their hair just because the society says they should because they’re women.
Brenna believes every woman has a right to choose what to do with her body.
She also gets negative comments about her hairy armpits but it doesn’t affect her. She wanted to embrace her body and that’s what she did.
Now, she is encouraging others to do the same.
Brenna said: “There’s so much pressure on women nowadays to look or act a certain way and my page is all about ignoring the pressure and encouraging women to just have self-love.”
