A 29-year-old mother has died of coronavirus just days after giving birth, without even seeing her newborn.
Fozia Hanif discovered she had coronavirus when she went for her maternity check-up.
She spent two days at the hospital and was then discharged from the hospital because the doctors said it was mild.
After four days, her health deteriorated as she started struggling to breathe and she was rushed to a hospital.
Fozia, who lost her first child during her pregnancy last year, gave birth to a baby boy, Ayaan Hanif Ali, at 31 weeks on 2nd April 2020 by Caesarean section.
After her condition became worse, she was transferred to an ICU ward from the recovery ward and was put on a ventilator at Birmingham Heartlands Hospital.
Fozia, who had recently celebrated her 29th birthday, didn’t even get to see her newborn and only saw his pictures. Her family was also not allowed to visit her.
Her sister Sophia Hanif said: “She had no time at all. She was asking for food, she was asking about the baby, she was asking about family and then all of a sudden. It was just a shock to us all.”
After Fozia developed a blood clot and was in a coma, the doctors allowed her husband, Wajid Ali, and her father, Nabil Hanif, to see her.
Her husband said: “When we walked into the hospital when they said they were going to turn the machines off, I said no don’t turn it off until we arrive, she’s a fighter, she can pull through – but when we walked in there, we just kept praying.”
On April 8, her ventilator was turned off in Birmingham Heartlands Hospital and Fozia died without even seeing her newborn baby.
The family is left devastated after her death and said she was an inspiration to many and was a fighter.
Baby Ayaan is still in the hospital but he tested negative for coronavirus.
