Mother-of-two Abandoned Her Cat In Her Flat Without Food And Water For Weeks


A mother-of-two left her cat alone in her flat without food or water for weeks after she moved into a new house with her lover.

Ashleigh Hume, who had a cat named Morgan, moved into a new house with her lover and abandoned her cat in her flat without food or water for weeks in Cowie, Stirlingshire.

When neighbors noticed no one had been visiting the flat for two to three months, they called the Scottish SPCA.

When they entered the flat, they found Morgan who was in a very bad condition as the cat was behaving strangely, hissing and crying while running in circles.

The cat had shredded and emptied the rubbish bags to find something to eat. They also found multiple empty cat food sachets and boxes that the cat had chewed.

Morgan was immediately rushed to a vet and after the treatment, the cat was taken into care by the SSPCA.

Prosecutor Caitlin French said: “The smell was overwhelming. The cat was behaving erratically, hissing and crying while running in circles.”

“There was a trail of rubbish bags which the cat had shredded and emptied, along with multiple empty cat food sachets and boxes which had all been chewed.”

The 39-year-old woman, who left her cat abandoned without food or water, has now been fined £650 and has been ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.

The woman has also been banned from keeping any animal for 10 years after pleading guilty for not providing adequate care and for leaving her cat without food.

Sheriff Robert Dickson told her: “Your early plea has just – and I emphasise just – persuaded me not to send you straight to prison.”
