Two Million Bottles Of Wine At A Warehouse Destroyed By Fire In Bordeaux

Two million bottles of wine have been destroyed during South West France blaze as fire broke out in a warehouse north of Bordeaux belonging to Sovex on Tuesday.

The warehouse, which belongs to Sovex, markets red, white and rose wines.

The wine was stored in boxes on wooden pallets covered inflammable material. The cause of the fire is still not known.

Firefighters arrived at the scene and evacuated around 80 people who were working on the site.

60 firefighters spent 15 hours to fight the blaze. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported but two million bottles of wine have been destroyed which cost $12.9 million.

‘In total, two million bottles of alcohol were destroyed,’ said an investigating source.

The fire took place less than 24 hours after Notre Dame Cathedral caught on fire.

A large fire broke out at the famous Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France on Monday.

Firefighters tried to stop the blaze for hours but the 850-year-old building was severely damaged.

Cathedral spokesman Andre Finot said: ‘Everything is burning. The frame – which dates to the 19th century on one side and the 13th century on the other – there will be nothing left.’

President Macron said in a speech outside Notre Dame that he was planning to rebuild the cathedral with the help from the international community.

‘We will appeal to the greatest talents and we will rebuild Notre Dame because that’s what the French are waiting for because that’s what our history deserves because it’s our deepest destiny.’
