A pregnant wife has gone viral for saving her husband’s life after the man got bitten by a large bull shark while on a snorkeling retreat.
The incident happened at the Sombrero Reef in Florida Keys where 30-year-old Andrew Eddy was enjoying boat time and snorkeling together with his wife, Margot Dukes-Eddy, and her family.
After the man jumped into the water to take a better look at the wonders under the sea, he was immediately approached by a “nine-foot bull shark” that latched onto Eddy’s shoulder.
Despite the imminent danger, Margot, who is pregnant, dove into the blood-filled water to reach her husband and pull him to safety.
After the brave wife’s rescue mission, the boat rushed the 30-year-old to the shore where medics had already been waiting for the shark bite victim.
“Dukes saw the shark’s dorsal fin and then blood filling the water. Dukes, without hesitation, dove into the water and pulled Eddy to the safety of the boat,” Christopher Aguanno, a deputy of Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, wrote in a report.
According to the deputy, other boaters in the area of the attack confirmed that a bull shark had been seen swimming around earlier that day. At the time of the attack, there were reportedly also other snorkelers in the water close to where Eddy was bitten.
As the Miami Herald reported, Dukes didn’t suffer any injuries while going after the shark to save her husband. Meanwhile, however, the authorities have described Eddy’s injuries as severe.
According to the estimates, the bull shark behind the attack was around nine feet long.
