Scientists Finally Revealed Why Coffee Makes Us Poop


Most people drink coffee to get their daily dose of energy to make their brain active, but do you know coffee helps to stimulate our digestive systems, But, no one has really been able to identify why that is, until now.

Researchers from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston recently conducted a study to find why coffee is so useful digestive system and presented their research to this year’s Digestive Disease Week.point 296 |

They researched on rats both caffeinated and decaf coffee for three days, to find the caffeine levels, they found that contraction muscles in the rats’ intestines were functioning much better than without coffee.point 186 | point 186 | 1

In their second experiment, the researchers mixed rat poop and coffee in a petri dish to observed the presence of bacteria for the next few days.point 417 |

They found that the higher amount of coffee, decaf or caffeinated, added to the dish, the number of microbes was very few, and the bacteria amount found in the rat poop surely decreased.point 154 | We can’t say anything surely if this means good bacteria is being eliminated from our guts, or if it’s doing our microbiomes a favor, but these research show that coffee has everything to do with the gut.point 330 |

According to an article from Johns Hopkins Medicine, we should try to take total caffeine intake at 400 mg per day, around four eight-ounce cups. No doubt, Coffee has some helpful and surprising health benefits, but drinking coffee too much can be dangerous for your health.
