As the coronavirus death toll in the world nears 100,000, this new video from the meat markets in Thailand and Indonesia shows dead animals next to alive chickens, frogs, and cats waiting to get slaughtered.

In this footage, one can see people roaming around on the filthy blood-soaked floors wearing flip-flops and handling raw meat with the hands without any gloves.

Flies buzzing over dead snakes, pigs, and dogs can also be seen while cats and chicken to be slaughtered are put in cramped cages.

According to popular beliefs, coronavirus started at a similar wet market in China’s Wuhan, which sold reptiles and bats. According to scientists, the coronavirus disease might have transmitted to a human from a bat.

PETA, a wildlife group campaign, released the video, and say that such markets could lead to the next pandemic as well.

PETA’S founder Ingrid Newkirk noted that the next pandemic was around the corner until stressed and sick animals were crowded together in such blood-soaked flesh markets.

She also said that PETA was calling on the WHO to help close such dangerous practices whether they were killing cats in Indonesia or chickens in New York.

In Indonesia, the local mayor had banned the sale of meat but according to one local, such markets were running as usual. Such markets serve as breeding grounds for diseases that can jump to humans from wild animals.

The animals in wet markets are generally caged on pavements and in public areas where blood and feces can contaminate people.

The United Nations also has called for the global ban on the wet markets but noted that alternative should be offered to the local people.
