But this couple from Michigan, Kathy and Brandon Gunn, have a very unique story to tell that can inspire any couple who are struggling with their marriages.

Kathy and Brandon got married 9 years ago and just like any other newlyweds, they also received bundles of gifts. But there was one gift that they didn’t open for 9 years and when they finally did it, you will be amazed to know what was inside.

According to Kathy, this gift was given by Aunt Alison who asked them to promise not to open the gift until their first disagreement.

The couple promised to not open it by that time and kept it like that during these years.
Although they had squabbles and the occasional fallout over the years, they eventually controlled themselves from opening it telling themselves that their marriage is not that weak.

In one of the posts written by Kathy, she told, “I honestly think that we both avoided turning to the box, because it would have symbolized our failure.

To us, it would have meant that we didn’t have what it takes to make our marriage work – and we’re both too stubborn and determined for that. So, it forced us to reassess situations. Was it really time to open the box? What if this isn’t our worst fight?

What if there’s a worse one ahead of us and we don’t have our box?!? As my Great Uncle Bill would say, ‘Nothing is ever so bad that it couldn’t get worse.’”

Eventually, after 9 years, the couple were thinking about giving a gift to one of their friends’ wedding and they were so confused as of what gift would be the most valuable one.

It was that time when they thought that for them the most valuable gift was the box by Aunt Alison that has seen 3 houses but they still haven’t opened it. It was that time that they decided to open it eventually.

When they finally opened it, they found two notes written, one for each, along with some cash. The note to Kathy read, “Go get a pizza, shrimp or something you both like.” On the other hand, Brandon’s told him to “Go get flowers and a bottle of wine.”
