The majority of police officers in Washington, DC, have confirmed they have a desire or thoughts about quitting the police force amid growing civil unrest according to a recent survey.
As per The Washington Examiner report, the police union in the city conducted a survey in which 71 percent, nearly three-quarters, of officers confirmed they’re thinking about quitting. Meanwhile, 39 percent are allegedly thinking of giving up work in law enforcement entirely.
The survey followed shortly after the Washington DC Council passed a police force reform bill that will see cops subjected to additional training requirements and the people involved in police operations, such as searches and arrests, having additional legal protection.
Following the bill’s passing, many officers allegedly feel as if they’ve been betrayed whereas a staggering 98.7 percent of the surveyed cops stated they feel “completely abandoned” by the local government.
In addition to these points, the majority of surveyed Washington DC cops, 96 percent of them, believe that the number of crimes will rise following the passing of the bill.
Meanwhile, along with the passing of controversial police reforms and growing civil unrest, the NYPD has confirmed that violent crimes in The Big Apple are on the rise.
According to the data, murders in the city in May 2020 have risen by 79 percent as compared to the same month last year.
As for shootings, they have gone up by 64 percent with robberies rising by 34 percent.
