A 22-year-old has warned about the uncommon coronavirus symptom after contracting the deadly virus following her return from Europe.
Amy Shircel, from Wisconsin, had a fever, mild cough, chills, a headache, and a runny nose after she returned from Europe.
After two days of ‘manageable’ symptoms, she was unable to eat or sleep as she was constantly vomiting and felt so weak that she couldn’t even walk.
The next day, she was tested positive for coronavirus and her health deteriorated.
She said she struggled to breathe and had never been this ill in her entire life. She thought she would die as her condition got worse day by day.
Amy said: “By the 6th day of symptoms, I was so weak I couldn’t even walk. I crawled to the bathroom to vomit.”
She was taken to a hospital after she became very dehydrated and medical staff rehydrated her.
She described her horrific experience: “I had never been that weak or fatigued by fever in my life. I either violently shivered in bed all day, or would wake up in a literal puddle of my own sweat.”
She couldn’t even eat for 9 days and genuinely thought she would die. She said she wouldn’t wish it on her worst enemy.
Amy has now shared her story to warn others so they stay at home after learning about her condition.
The less common symptom of coronavirus is nausea but Amy said it left her miserable and she feared for her own life.
Amy said she has her appetite back she is still not fully recovered. She warned people in their 20s to stay at home and take the virus seriously as they are not invincible just because they are young.
She said: “A coronavirus diagnosis is dehumanizing and lonely, and I wouldn’t wish it upon my worst enemy.”
“You aren’t invincible just because you’re in your 20s. Take it from me, and quarantine like your life depends on it (it might).”
Amy still has all the major symptoms but she is better than before and is recovering.
