An 83-year-old Vietnam War veteran received unexpected help from paramedics after collapsing from heat exhaustion.
Prince Pinkney is a war veteran from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who collapsed while mowing his lawn in 91-degree heat on Monday.
As the man explained in an interview with WSVN-TV, he “got overheated” and one of his legs gave out, causing him to tumble over to the ground.
“When it gave out, I just fell right in the yard out there,” Mr. Pinkney explained.
While the Vietnam War missile tech’s wife, Rebecca, tried to help her husband get back on his feet, she “couldn’t hold him up.”
Thankfully, a passerby saw the commotion and called 911 for help. After the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue paramedics arrived at the elderly couple’s home, they not only treated Mr. Pinkney but also finished the yard work he had started before collapsing.
As the crew revealed, they were glad to be able to treat the war veteran and cut the grass in his name.
“Their story is amazing in itself. Their age, what they’ve gone through, his history as a veteran serving this country,” Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Captain Terry Maylor told the station as he opened up about the couple’s story.
“If that doesn’t move you to go ahead and do what you’re capable of, then nothing will.”
After successfully mowing the entire lawn at Pinkney’s home, the paramedics posed for a picture with the elderly couple before taking off.
Following the act of kindness, photos showing FLFR employees mowing the lawn made rounds on the internet with people praising the compassionate paramedics for taking their time to assist the elderly couple.
