Walmart Employee Told A Customer In Fluent Spanish To Speak In English As ‘We’re In Texas’

Joel Aparicio, who owns a small business in Houston posted a video that was recorded in the Walmart store in Pasadena, Texas on Sunday.

The video shows that one of the staff at Wal-Mart named Cecilia was rebuking Aparicio to speak in English as they are in Texas.

This was the interaction that had happened between the lady worker at Walmart and customer while fixing the glitch of the self-checkout machine.

This video has gone viral after posting on social media and was viewed by 4,25,000 people with 4400 comments. The comments supported and threatened Aparicio.

As per Aparicio, who is the father of two has gone for shopping to Walmart Supercenter that was located on Sharver Street in Pasadena, Texas, where he encountered a technical issue with the self-checkout machine and at that time Cecilia who around came to fix the issue.

At the start of the conversion, Aparicio asked whether she can speak in English, for which the answer was no.

Despite Cecilia has fixed the issue, but the same issue had encountered again. To fix the issue, Cecilia came again and warned Aparicio to speak in English than in Spanish and stated that he should not be staying in the US if he cannot speak in English.

Aparicio was staying in Houston since 13 years started recording the heated conversion on his cell phone. When he asked whether it is obligatory to speak in English, then the woman replied that as we are staying in Texas, we should be speaking in English. Aparicio stated that she looks Hispanic with green eyes.

Finally, she ended up saying that as she lives in Texas, therefore she speaks in English. Aparicio told that he has been receiving threats from the relatives of Cecilia.

He also shared the threatening and an abusive message that he received from one of her grandchildren.

The woman claiming to be the daughter of the old lady threatened to attack him physically. As per the census report, it was found that there are 153,000 people residing in Pasadena of which 65% people are Hispanic.

Wal-Mart stated that they are investigating this incident internally.
