Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Canceled After Years Of Backlash

The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has been officially canceled this year as the company working to save its reputation.

The lingerie giant’s parent company, L Brands, confirmed that it was canceled this storied runway event as the company trying to change the way of communication with customers.

“We’ll be communicating to customers, but nothing that I would say is similar in magnitude to the fashion show,” Stuart Burgdoerfer, CFO of L Brands, the lingerie brand’s parent company, reportedly said during an earnings call.

“As communicated previously, we think it’s important to evolve the marketing of Victoria’s Secret, that is happening in certain respects now, and I think there will be more to come,” he said. “If that continues to get evaluated, again, we believe the most important thing is the quality of the merchandise itself.”

This step was taken after months of uncertainty surrounding the show, which, in the age of #MeToo, has lost a lot of its appeal. In July, model Shanina Shaik told the Daily Telegraph the show was ending.

“Why not?” he added. “Because the show is a fantasy. It’s a 42-minute entertainment special.”

The brand has also faced criticism after Jameela Jamil, who accused the company of being a ‘transphobic, fatphobic company that sets out to exclude most women.’

Iskra shared an Instagram video of herself in a bikini in December last year alongside a caption that read: ‘That cellulite, those rolls are cute, that jiggle is sexy and everybody deserves to feel confident in the skin they’re in.’

‘Unfortunately, Victoria’s Secret show won’t be happening this year,’ said the 28-year-old model, who has walked in the show five times since 2011.

‘It’s something I’m not used to because every year around this time I’m training like an Angel,’ she told The Daily Telegraph.

‘But I’m sure in the future something will happen which I’m pretty sure about,’ she added optimistically. ‘I’m sure they’re trying to work on branding and new ways to do the show because it’s the best show in the world.’
