Thousands of people sent gifts, letters, and cards which he will be presented on Valentine’s Day.

In an interview with KCRA, he said: “I don’t know what to say or think or do when this subject is brought up. It hits me like a ton of bricks.

“I’m surprised to say the least. I hadn’t expected any of this until all of a sudden it happened.”

His daughter, Mary Huston, said to the Record that most of the cards came from people with fathers, brothers and sons in the military.

“It’s kind of a way to thank maybe those that have passed already,” she expressed. “They can’t thank them personally, so they’re doing it through him.”

The heartwarming gifts and cards will join White’s collection of memories he has gained over the years, including scrapbooks and objects he keeps on a shelf, he said to KTXL.

“It’s kept me busy just trying to locate or keep track of what’s happened to me, where, when,” he said.

“I’ll save every one of them like I’ve been saving little things that have come up until right now and they’ll be a personal part of my history.”
