A Verizon employee was working in Port Richmond when he noticed some residents looking at Princess Momma, a cat who had been stuck on a telephone phone for over 12 hours.
Maurice German answered the distressed call of residents but what ended as a heartwarming story for the feline ended with a job suspension for him.
The cat owners said they tried to call the fire department, the animal rescue, and other organizations for help but they were not successful. Luckily, German was more than ready to help and his amazing act was recorded by CBS Philly Reporter Steve Lindsay.
With the help of his company equipment, German rescued the animal. But it turns out that Verizon doesn’t have a soft spot for cat rescue videos and suspended the employee.
Verizon said that the employee had put himself and people around him in danger. “We take no joy in this job action,” Verizon spokesperson Rich Young said. “However, we’re committed and responsible for keeping our employees and customers safe while working in a particular area.”
In response to the kindhearted worker, the internet has railed around him in a touching way.
Many people heard of German’s story and one person who saw the rescue created a GoFundMe page to support him. “This generous man is now being punished! Maurice is being suspend from his job for saving an animal. Let’s support Maurice for his good deed while his employer punishes him!”
The donations already exceeded the goal but people were touched by his action that they continued to donate to the cause.
