Vegan Suing Burger King For Cooking Meat-Free And Beef Patties On The Same Grill

A group of vegans led by activist Phillip Williams has filed a class-action lawsuit against fast-food giant Burger King after accusing the franchise of false advertising due to cooking beef patties on the same grill as their meat-free alternatives.

In the suit, the chain was accused of contaminating Impossible Burgers, the restaurant’s vegan-friendly burgers consisting of meat-free patties, by grilling them on the same grill as meat patties.

According to Williams, who bought an alleged “contaminated burger” at a branch in Atlanta, Georgia, ‘vegan’ burgers aren’t meat-free at all as they come in contact with meat residues during the preparation phase.

“Burger King has no disclosures on its menu that would notify a consumer prior to the purchase of the Impossible Whopper that it was cooked in a manner that would result in meat by-products on the burger,” the lawsuit reads.

Among his own complaint, the upset vegan has also cited several other reports filed by similar-minded individuals.

As for Williams’ demands, he wishes to receive monetary compensation for the “damages” caused as well as for Burger King to stop preparing vegan patties on the same grills as the rest.

The controversy related to the chain’s vegan alternatives began back in the summer when US Head Chris Finazzo revealed that Impossible Whoppers would be grilled using the same equipment as meat patties.

“For anyone looking to eat the impossible whopper from Burger King, if you are Vegan do not eat that burger they cook it on the same grill as the regular dead cow burger! #BURGERKING #ImpossibleWhopper Is not vegan,” one angry vegan wrote in their post after the controversy went viral.

Despite the public backlash, however, the company insisted they would not be changing their cooking practices.
