The US Navy has been facing criticism amid backlash following a quiet change in the logo of the military branch.

As eagle-eyed netizens noticed and pointed out on social media, the Navy has changed its logo by covering the eagle’s beak with a face mask in a presumed attempt to showcase the importance of adhering to the nation’s safety protocols.

The change, however, was not well-received whereas critics were quick to insist that including a face mask in the military branch’s logo is a sign of “weakness.”

“China, Iran, and Russia are p***ing their pants laughing at us,” commentator John Cardillo expressed.

“The @USNavy put a mask on the Eagle on its home page. We’re doomed,” ex-SEAL Team Six operator Robert J. O’Neill added.

Another one wrote: “Why desecrate the US Navy logo with a mask? It’s a blatant show of weakness. China is laughing.”

Meanwhile, other disappointed Americans went on to call the change uncalled for and “depressing.”

Though people, as well as private and government organizations and agencies, commonly tweak their logos and pictures to reflect or draw attention to present concerns or topics of interest, the military traditionally isn’t quick to embrace changes.

The controversy surrounding the logo follows shortly after the Marines were branded as unprofessional for calling Tucker Carlson of Fox News a boomer and mocking the critics of pregnant service members.

In an apology for their insensitive tweets, II Marine Expeditionary Force admitted they were wrong saying they stood up to critics in an attempt to stand up for female Marines.

“We are human and we messed up. We intended to speak up for female Marines and it was an effort to support them,” they wrote in a tweet.

“They are a crucial part to our corps and we need them to know that. We will adjust fire and ensure the utmost professionalism in our tweets.”
