A UPS driver has been arrested and charged after allegedly shooting at several vehicles over a period of three months.
49-year-old Kenneth Ayers from Roseburg, Oregon, has been accused of using his firearm to shoot at cars along a southern interstate on seven separate occasions.
According to the authorities, Ayers, who has been charged with attempted murder, managed to shoot one of his targets along Interstate 5 on Wednesday, whereas the victim has since been treated for her gunshot wound and released from the hospital.
Following the shooting, investigators tracked Ayers’ truck and found the UPS driver some 60 miles away from the scene of the shooting.
As the authorities searched the vehicle, they came across an undisclosed type of firearm that matched the weapon used in the seven interstate shootings that occurred at different locations in counties including Jackson, Douglas, and Josephine.point 520 | 1
According to the reports, investigators from all three counties worked together in tracking down the I-5 shooter who is currently being held on $1 million bail.
Following the incident, UPS has also spoken out and expressed their shock and concern over the shootings involving one of their drivers.
“We are appalled to hear about these allegations and are fully cooperating with the responding authorities,” a company spokesperson stated.
“Firearms are prohibited at UPS facilities and in our vehicles, and we are extremely concerned for the other motorists and individuals who have been affected. We’ll defer further comment to the investigating authorities.”
