The UEFA has blocked Germany from lighting up the Euro 2020 stadium in Munich with rainbow hues.

Local media outlets confirm how the decision blocked Germany from displaying solidarity with the LGBTQ community, moments ahead of Germany versus Hungary football showdown. As far as the reason is concerned, authorities from UEFA cited it as ‘political context.’

Moreover, the news comes just after Hungary brought forward a new law that banned gay individuals in schoolbooks.

The mayor of the German city of Munich had recently applied to the UEFA, where they requested permission to illuminate the famous Allianz Arena this Wednesday. However, ever since the request was put forward, it was immediately shot back down, citing political context.

Reports confirmed how the request was a justification for the new pass in the Hungarian nation that banned sharing of information relating to the context of homosexuality or even information relating to the non-binary gender in educational institutions.

Shockingly, the major news comes just days after the UEFA went ahead and abandoned an investigation that entailed Germany’s skipper Manuel Neuer’s decision to flaunt an LGBT armband that was worn during a recent match in the Euro 2020 cup.

Munich’s mayor hoped that his request to make use of rainbow tones would not be denied as he wanted to use that as a message to the new laws in Hungary which he felt was not in line or had any basis on solid grounds.

In addition, UEFA cited how it wished to remain politically neutral on such matters, although it did fully support the rights of the LGBT community.

“We are completely bound by our founding charters to stay politically neutral. Hence, for this reason, we can’t give our blessings to such naked acts,” it went on to mention via a recent public statement.

However, the news comes despite the fact that the board from UEFA did actually allow members from the English team to take the knee, right before their matches. This is more or less a political-themed gesture that was adopted from the US, protesting the concept of racial inequality.
