An Uber Eats driver broke down in tears after he received a $1 tip despite driving over an hour to deliver a meal.
Smithson Michael took to TikTok and shared how he was struggling to make ends meet by driving for the food delivery service.
His heartbreaking video has been viewed more than 1 million times.
“I wish people knew what it was like to deliver for Uber Eats, Postmates, Doordash all these companies,” he said in tears.
“I just spent an hour driving around for $1.19 tip. I mean would it hurt y’all to tip us, throw us five dollars?”
Aside from the small tip, Michael said that the delivery had earned him $2 from the app company.
“What’s that? That’s not even enough to cover gas,” he expressed. “How am I supposed to survive like that?”
Michael said he was homeless and had already fallen four months behind on car payments.
“Everything fell apart on me and I haven’t been able to sustain myself, provide for myself and these are essential services,” he said.
“I just wish people knew what it was like. I wish they understood what it was like to drive for these services.”
Many commenters blamed the delivery app companies for charging ridiculous fees for deliveries.
One person commented: “It wouldn’t hurt, and I always tip. But also these companies are exploiting you guys and they need to be regulated.”
Another wrote: “I always tip well but let’s be real.. Corporations are to blame.”
A third said: “People deserve living wages & don’t order if you can’t tip.”

Someone else added: “Sorry, if you arent willing to pay minimum 5 dollars for a delivery tip dont order delivery. Disgraceful. That is the basic standard. And you know it when you order. Whining about how they are paid when you know what it is beforehand, is ridiculous.”
