It is definitely a joyful time since the beginning of the year and there is no doubt that more joyful moments are just around the corner. Most of us will acknowledge the fact that the weather is about to get colder. Everyone is trying to purchase some gloves, hats, and warm jackets because winter is coming and we have to be ready for it.
However, most people tend to forget the fact that there are many people who don’t have a shelter to keep warm. These include the many people you pass by as you go to the shopping mall. I think the time has come to do everything possible to give a warm bed to those street people.
Here is something to inspire you if you don’t think that this is possible. Two women in the UK started a project to bring all members of the community together for an incredible reason. They decided to take part in the new practice of building bus shelters.
The two women, Joanne Vines and Sammy Barcroft, lead a charity group known as The Rucksack Project. They live in Portsmouth and have decided to work with various organizations.
The main objective of these organizations is to create shelters for the homeless by renovating vehicles that have not been in use for ages. The two women came across a double-decker bus and decided to transform it into a shelter for the homeless.
The bus was in a very bad state when they found it. They worked with a few people to renovate the old bus.
Their main idea was to turn the massive double-decker Stagecoach bus into a shelter on wheels. It took about 70-80 workers and 8 months to transform the bus. The amount spent on the entire project was $8,000.
The transformed bus can accommodate twelve bunk bed, a functional kitchenette, and a lounge. Time was the most important contribution offered by most of the volunteers who helped with the renovation project. The value of the transformed bus is now over $33,000.
After finishing the project, Vines spoke to Metro UK and said that she was happy because the finished project would stay in Portsmouth. She was also happy to have some time to relax after the project. The photos show that the new bus looks new, amazing, and warm.
News reports have revealed that the new home on wheels will be placed in front of St. Agatha’s Church. It is expected to help about 300,000 homeless people in Britain.
Everyone should be inspired by this act and do whatever needs to be done to transform our community. You don’t have to take on big projects like this one, but whatever you do can make a significant difference.
