As the authorities in the Netherlands confirmed, the hacker managed to crack the president’s password – maga2020! – before disclosing his actions.

“We believe the hacker has actually penetrated Trump’s Twitter account, but has met the criteria that have been developed in case law to go free as an ethical hacker,” the prosecutor’s office stated after Gevers revealed he had hacked the president’s Twitter to warn about the need to switch on 2-step verification.

“Both the hacker and the American authorities have been informed of the outcome of the investigation,” the Dutch prosecutors added.

Speaking of his controversial actions, Gevers previously told De Volkskrant that hacking Trump’s account was easy because his additional security measures were switched off.

“I expected to be blocked after four failed attempts. Or at least would be asked to provide additional information,” the 44-year-old told the Dutch newspaper.

To back up his claims, Gevers previously shared screenshots of the ‘edit profile’ section of Trump’s Twitter. According to the screenshot, he was able to edit Trump’s name, bio, and profile picture.

Following the alleged breach of Trump’s Twitter account, Gevers immediately disclosed the hack and reportedly informed the US authorities of his actions.

As the 44-year-old insisted in an interview with Dutch media, he was eventually thanked by the Secret Service for making the authorities aware of the security issue.

According to the reports, this wasn’t the first time Gevers managed to get access to Trump’s Twitter. Back in 2016, he reportedly hacked his account using the password ‘yourefired’.
