The president wrote on Twitter: “Big WIN for us in Iowa tonight. Thank you!” referencing his triumph against Republican presidential hopefuls Joe Walsh and Bill Weld.

Weld gained 348 votes while Walsh got 423 votes, sharing less than three percent of the total votes cast in the contest.

Trump then returned to Twitter and trolled the Democratic Party, writing: “The Democrat Caucus is an unmitigated disaster.

“Nothing works, just like they ran the Country. Remember the 5 Billion Dollar Obamacare Website, that should have cost 2% of that. The only person that can claim a very big victory in Iowa last night is ‘Trump.”

He added: “When will the Democrats start blaming RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA, instead of their own incompetence for the voting disaster that just happened in the Great State of Iowa?

“The Democrat Party in Iowa really messed up, but the Republican Party did not. I had the largest re-election vote in the history of that great state, by far, beating President Obama’s previous record by a lot. Also, 97% Plus of the vote! Thank you Iowa!”

Sen. Bernie Sanders and former South Bend mayor Pete Buttigieg both won in the Monday’s contest. However, the Iowa Democrats said the official results won’t be released until Tuesday.

Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager, said in a statement: “Democrats are stewing in a caucus mess of their own creation with the sloppiest train wreck in history. It would be natural for people to doubt the fairness of the process. And these are the people who want to run our entire health care system?

“Tonight President Trump posted a record performance in the well-run GOP Iowa caucuses with record turnout for an incumbent.”

Parscale later wrote on Twitter: “They can’t even run a caucus and they want to run the government. No thank you.”
