President Donald Trump has responded to Iran with a clear threat after the country’s officials hoisted red flags signifying war and revenge and warned that they have identified 35 vital U.
S. targets within their reach.
Following an airstrike on the most renowned Iranian military figure, General Qassem Soleimani, thousands of angry protestors have taken to streets to chant words of war and revenge directed at the U.S.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials have claimed that they’ve identified 35 targets vital to the West that are within their reach of the attack. Some of these targets include Tel Aviv, the battleships in the Persian Gulf, and the Strait of Hormuz.
“The Strait of Hormuz is a vital point for the West and a large number of American destroyers and warships cross there … some 35 U.S. targets in the region as well as Tel Aviv are within our reach,” General Gholamali Abuhamzeh said as per the REUTERS report.
Responding to the threats of the Islamic Republic of Iran officials was Donald Trump who warned that a strike on “any Americans or American assets” would lead to “VERY FAST AND VERY HARD” hits on fundamental Iranian sites.
“Iran is talking very boldly about targeting certain USA assets as revenge for our ridding the world of their terrorist leader who had just killed an American, & badly wounded many others, not to mention all of the people he had killed over his lifetime, including recently hundreds of Iranian protesters,” the POTUS tweeted.
“He was already attacking our Embassy, and preparing for additional hits in other locations. Iran has been nothing but problems for many years.
“Let this serve as a WARNING that if Iran strikes any Americans, or American assets, we have targeted 52 Iranian sites (representing the 52 American hostages taken by Iran many years ago), some at a very high level & important to Iran & the Iranian culture, and those targets, and Iran itself, WILL BE HIT VERY FAST AND VERY HARD. The USA wants no more threats!”
The tensions between the countries have been escalating rapidly following the American airstrike on General Soleimani which took place at Baghdad International Airport just moments after the senior military member made a landing.
Following the elimination of one of Iran’s most prominent figures, the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Defense Minister Amir Hatami promised that the general would be avenged.
The airstrike was ordered by President Donald Trump shortly after Iran-backed Iraqi militia besieged the US embassy in Baghdad and set its reception on fire.
According to the reports, the Marines were able to repel the attack whereas several hundred troops were sent across the ocean to aid them.
As Pentagon claimed, the US President ordered the attack on Soleimani in order “to protect U.S. personnel abroad.”
In addition, Pentagon announced that General Soleimani had to be taken out because he was “actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.”
After the successful assassination, Trump has shared a picture of the American flag on Twitter without further explanation.
Meanwhile, the US embassy in Baghdad urged all Americans in Iraq to leave immediately.
“Due to heightened tensions in Iraq and the region, the US Embassy urges American citizens to heed the January 2020 Travel Advisory and depart Iraq immediately. US citizens should depart via airline while possible, and failing that, to other countries via land,” they wrote.
“Due to Iranian-backed militia attacks at the US Embassy compound, all consular operations are suspended. US citizens should not approach the Embassy,” the State Department added.
After the airstrike, thousands of Iranian mourners have taken to the streets to mourn the loss of their beloved general.
As for the government officials and the Supreme Leader, they vowed to take their revenge on those responsible for the attack.
“All friends – & enemies – know that Jihad of Resistance will continue with more motivation & definite victory awaits the fighters on this blessed path. The loss of our dear General is bitter. The continuing fight & ultimate victory will be more bitter for the murderers & criminals,” Supreme Leader Khamenei announced.
“A crushing revenge will be taken for Soleimani’s unjust assassination,” Defense Minister Amir Hatami proclaimed.
“The US’ act of international terrorism, targeting & assassinating General Soleimani—THE most effective force fighting Daesh (ISIS), Al Nusrah, Al Qaeda et al—is extremely dangerous & a foolish escalation. The US bears responsibility for all consequences of its rogue adventurism,” Javad Zarif, Iran’s foreign minister, added.
