Former President Donald Trump showed appreciation for his supporters who gathered outside his home on Presidents’ Day.
Mr. Trump was photographed in public for the first time since he was acquitted at his second impeachment trial, waving to his supporters and giving them a thumbs up.
The rally saw around 600 supporters lining the streets outside the Mar-a-Lago club carrying MAGA and American flags while cheering for Trump.
A live stream of the West Palm Beach rally on Right Side Broadcasting Network’s YouTube channel gained more than 500,000 views.
Lead press secretary Margo Martin confirmed to Newsweek that Trump’s motorcade drove by the rally on Monday afternoon.
One fan named Tara told WPEC she “100 percent” rejected the idea that the former president’s political career was over, saying that “it’s only been getting started.”
Supporters chanted “USA” and one attendee could be heard yelling: “That’s my president!” as Trump drove by the rally.
The former president remains popular among his base and around 60 percent of Republicans would accept the idea of joining a Trump-founded third party.
However, not everyone in the state has been supportive of Trump’s return. Many residents wanted to stop him from staying in his Mar-a-Lago residents, with one banner flying over the club with the words: “Convict Trump and Lock Him Up.”
After leaving Washington DC, Trump said that the movement was only getting started and “we will be back in some form.”
His remarks sparked speculation that he would run as president again after four years.
After his acquittal, Trump issued a statement hinting at a political re-emergence. “Our historic, patriotic and beautiful movement to Make America Great Again has only just begun,” he said.
