President Donald Trump has said he was not told that Russia was helping Bernie Sanders win the Democratic presidential nomination.

He blamed Rep. Adam Schiff of California for leaking information from a classified briefing.

Trump said: “I read where Russia is helping Bernie Sanders. Nobody said it to me. Nobody said it to me at all. Nobody briefed me about that at all. … They leaked it.”

Accusing Schiff of leaking the information from a classified briefing, Trump said Schiff and his group leaked it to the papers and he should be investigated for leaking information out of intelligence.

Trump said: “They leaked it — Adam Schiff and his group, they leaked it to the papers… They ought to investigate Adam Schiff.”

He said the Democrats are treating Bernie Sanders unfairly and he believes it was leaked by Adam Schiff because they don’t want Bernie Sanders to represent them.

However, Schiff has denied leaking the information. Defending himself, he wrote on Twitter: “Nice deflection, Mr. President. But your false claims fool no one.”

“You welcomed Russian help in 2016, tried to coerce Ukraine’s help in 2019, and won’t protect our elections in 2020. Now you fired your intel chief for briefing Congress about it. You’ve betrayed America. Again.”

Last week, Trump fired Joseph Maguire as acting national intelligence director for “briefing Congress” about election interference from Russia.

The president has denied that Russia helped him win the 2016 election against Hillary Clinton.

However, National Security Adviser Robert O’brien said: “There was no briefing that I’ve received or that the president’s received that says Putin’s doing anything to try and influence the elections in favor of Trump.”

He said Russia probably would favor Sanders because he wants to spend money on social programs.

Robert O’Brien told CBS: “They’d probably like him to be president, understandably, because he wants to spend money on social programs and probably would have to take it out of the military.”
