President Trump Accidentally Rewrote History During His ‘Salute To America’ Speech

President Donald Trump accidentally rewrote history during his ‘Salute to America’ speech at the Lincoln Memorial, saying that the army under George Washington managed to take ‘airports.

He said in his speech, “In June of 1775, the Continental Congress created a uniform army out of the revolutionary forces outside of Boston and New York and named after the great George Washington, commander in chief.”

Trump was starting off on an inaccurate front as the continental army was named not after Washington but the Continental Congress.

“The continental Army suffered a bitter winter of Valley Forge, found glory across the waters of the Delaware and seized victory from Cornwallis at Yorktown,” he continued.

However, his biggest glitch came when he combined three historical events: when planes were invented in the 20th century, the 1812 war, and the Revolutionary War.

“Our Army manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over airports, it did everything it had to do and at Ft. McHenry under the rocket’s red glare had nothing but victory,” he expressed.

The president appeared to mix the continental army’s revolutionary campaign and the invention of planes by the Wright brothers. It was in 1928 when the first airport started to exist, over 150 years after the first period Trump talked about.

Next was when he suggested that the continental army became the deciding factor in winning the war at Fort McHenry.

Twitter users were quick to share clips of the video. One wrote: “Trump just said the army took over the airports during the Revolutionary War. That’s, um, 127 years before the airplane was invented.”

Another shared: “Trump’s memory of the War Of 1812, you know with airports and airplanes!? Wow.”

A third wrote: “LOL Trump just said the army took over the airports during the Battle of Valley Forge, more than 120 years before the first air flight.”
