President Donald Trump wants to raise funds for his presidential library, the
Daily Mail reported.
He reportedly told a former Trump fundraiser of the demand as he prepares to move to his Mar-a-Lago residence.
One of his closest aides, Dan Scavino, will be in charge of the astonishing effort.
According to The Washington Post, Trump is telling his donors and supporters that he wants to raise $2 billion for a presidential library and museum in Florida.
Such an amount would far exceed the cost of other presidential libraries. However, Trump believes that he will manage to raise it through small-dollar donations.
Scavino, who formerly served as his social media guru, is currently the White House deputy chief of staff. The 45-year-old is the longest-term aide in the president’s circle.
Speaking about the plans, an unnamed fundraiser told the Washington Post: “I thought to myself, what is this alternative fantasy life you’re living?
“I have no clue where they think they’ll get this money raised. Anyone who gives to him will be radioactive.”
The tradition of constructing a presidential library and museum goes back to Franklin D. Roosevelt, who gave his papers to the government.
The most expensive so far is former president Barack Obama’s $500 million library and museum on the South Side of Chicago.
Trump plans to exit office for his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida hours before President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, which he does not plan to attend.
Biden’s inauguration celebration will be closed to the public due to the Capitol riots that left five people dead after Trump supporters stormed the building.
