President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump celebrated Thanksgiving and participated in traditional turkey pardon.
He told people in the White House Rose Garden: “We send our love to every member of the armed forces and the law enforcement heroes risking their lives to keep America safe, to keep America great – and as I say America First, we shouldn’t go away from that, America First.”
The first lady stood next to her husband while Ivanka Trump, Jared Kushner, and their children sat in the front row and wore masks.
Waving his hand over the bulbous turkey from Iowa, Trump said: “Corn I hereby grant you a full pardon, thank you Corn.”
The President was heard telling the National Turkey Federation Chairman Ron Kardel: “I knew I liked you.”
Cob, the other Broad-Breasted White turkey, is also expected to reside at Iowa State University.
“Thanksgiving is a very special day for turkeys. Not a very good one, when you think about it,” Trump said.
“Once again Melania and I wish to thank everybody for your incredible courtesies and wish you a Happy Thanksgiving.”
The event marked the President’s second time in public since the General Service Administration said President-elect Joe Biden is ready to begin the transition process.
GSA Administrator Emily Murphy sent a letter to Biden informing him that the may access federal sources and start the transition.
Moments after the letter was sent, Trump took to Twitter and wrote: “I want to thank Emily Murphy at GSA for her steadfast dedication and loyalty to our Country. She has been harassed, threatened, and abused – and I do not want to see this happen to her, her family, or employees of GSA. Our case STRONGLY continues.”
Trump added: “We will keep up the good fight, and I believe we will prevail Nevertheless, in the best interest of our Country, I am recommending that Emily and her team do what needs to be done with regard to initial protocols, and have told my team to do the same.”
