Trump appears to have lost Georgia to Biden as the third vote count in the state proved that Biden won the popular vote and will be taking the state’s 16 Electoral College votes.
Despite Trump’s allegations of a rigged election, Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who is a Republican, insisted that multiple investigations revealed there is no evidence of widespread fraud in the state.
“It looks like Vice President Biden will be carrying Georgia, and he is our president-elect,” Raffensperger confirmed during a Wednesday news conference.
The news presents a major blow for Trump who demanded a second recount in Georgia due to a tiny margin.
As it was confirmed after the second recount (the third vote count in total), Trump lost to Biden by just 0.2 percent or some 13,000 votes in total in the state of Georgia.
According to Raffensperger, who rejected the president’s allegations of fraud, the third vote count delivered no substantial changes.
“Even after this office request that President Trump try and quell the violent rhetoric being born out of his continuing claims of winning the states where he obviously lost, he tweeted out ‘expose the massive voter fraud in Georgia,’” Georgia Secretary of State said as he lashed out at Trump over his voter fraud claims.point 553 | 1
“This is exactly the kind of language that is at the base of a growing threat environment for election workers who are simply doing their jobs.”
Raffensperger’s remarks are in line with the statement of U.S. Attorney General William Barr who contradicted the president by confirming that the Justice Department hadn’t found any evidence implying there was widespread voter fraud.
“To date, we have not seen fraud on a scale that could have effected a different outcome in the election,” Barr told The Associated Press.
