President Donald Trump has reportedly filed a motion to join Texas AG’s lawsuit against four battleground states in a bid to overturn election results.
The lawsuit has been filed in the Supreme Court by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton who accused four swing states, including Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, of exploiting “the COVID-19 pandemic to justify ignoring federal and state election laws and unlawfully enacting last-minute changes, thus skewing the results of the 2020 General Election.”
“By ignoring both state and federal law, these states have not only tainted the integrity of their own citizens’ vote, but of Texas and every other state that held lawful elections,” Paxton insisted.
Since the filing of the controversial lawsuit on Monday night, 17 other states and President Donald Trump have filed motions to join the lawsuit initiated by the Texas AG.
In the legal papers presented by Trump as he filed a motion to join the lawsuit, his attorneys argued that “a large percentage of the American people know that something is deeply amiss” and that “these things just don’t normally happen.”
While the president reportedly failed to present any concrete evidence that would back up his fraud allegations, he cited partisan polls as ‘proof’ that fellow Americans believe the election was rigged.
“The fact that nearly half of the country believes the election was stolen should come as no surprise,” the president’s attorneys allegedly wrote.
“President Trump prevailed on nearly every historical indicia of success in presidential elections. For example, he won both Florida and Ohio; no candidate in history—Republican or Democrat—has ever lost the election after winning both States.”
The filing goes on to argue that the election was rigged because Trump didn’t win despite receiving 12 million more votes than he did in 2016 when he won the election.
“This, despite the fact that the nearly 75 million votes he received—a record for any incumbent President—was nearly 12 million more than he received in the 2016 election, also a record (in contrast to the 2012 election, in which the incumbent received 3 million fewer votes than he had four years earlier but nevertheless prevailed),” the papers read.point 547 | 1
“These things just don’t normally happen, and a large percentage of the American people know that something is deeply amiss.”
Following the lawsuit against four battleground states, several top state leaders and officials have slammed the Republicans’ desperate bid to overturn the election results.
“These fact-less, baseless ‘lawsuits’ to stir confusion and doubt in our systems are un-American, and we should not allow this circus to continue,” said Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro.
“I feel sorry for Texans that their tax dollars are being wasted on such a genuinely embarrassing lawsuit. Texas is as likely to change the outcome of the Ice Bowl as it is to overturn the will of Wisconsin voters in the 2020 presidential election,” Wisconsin Attorney General Josh Kaul responded.
Utah Senator Sen. Mitt Romney said: “It’s just simply madness. The idea of supplanting the vote of the people with partisan legislators is so completely out of our national character that it’s simply mad.
“Of course, the President has the right to challenge results in court, to have recounts. But this effort to subvert the vote of the people is dangerous and destructive of the cause of democracy.”
