In her resignation letter to Trump, DeVos confirmed that her departure is a result of the “violent” attack on Capitol which, according to the education secretary, Trump’s rhetoric had an impact on.

On Wednesday, DeVos was the first Cabinet member who blasted the siege on Capitol in a tweet.

“Our country experienced a traumatic and entirely avoidable event as supporters of the President stormed the Capitol building following a rally he addressed. As I’m sure is the case with many of you, it has deeply troubled me in a way that I simply cannot set aside,” Chao wrote.
