President Donald Trump has accepted his fate after VP Mike Pence ended the campaign to overturn the election, the
Daily Mail reported.
Before 4 am Thursday, Pence certified President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
Banned from Facebook and Twitter, Trump posted a tweet from an aide’s phone and said there would be an ‘orderly transition.’
“Even though I totally disagree with the outcome of the election, and the facts bear me out, nevertheless there will be an orderly transition on January 20,” he said in a statement.
“I have always said we would continue our fight to ensure that only legal votes were counted.
“While this represents the end of the greatest first term in presidential history, it’s only the beginning of our fight to Make America Great Again.”
Pence made the announcement after Trump supporters invaded the US Capitol Building and left four people dead. Molotov cocktails, long guns, and pipe bombs were also discovered during the chaos.
The attack interrupted the certification of results as people pushed through barricades and marched into the Capitol halls.
Protesters confronted Capitol police, looted offices, and vandalized statues as they carried Confederate flags.
Former President Barack Obama described the chaos as a “moment of great dishonor and shame for our nation’, while his predecessor George W. Bush said that ‘this is how election results are disputed in a banana republic.”
Many White House aides including press secretary Stephanie Grisham resigned.
Deputy press secretary Sarah Matthews, social secretary Rickie Niceta, and deputy national security adviser Matt Pottinger also quit.
President Trump was banned from Twitter for 12 hours and Facebook for 24 hours.
