Daniel Craig has led tributes to late James Bond star Sean Connery after the legendary actor’s death at the age of 90.
The iconic actor, who was the first to portray James Bond on the big screen, died in his sleep at his Bahamas home after a long battle with his illness.
Following the Goldfinger star’s passing, top celebrities, including 007 Daniel Craig, have paid a tribute to the Scottish actor and producer.
“It is with such sadness that I heard of the passing of one of the true greats of cinema,” Craig’s statement, which was shared on the official James Bond Twitter account, read.
“Sir Sean Connery will be remembered as Bond and so much more. He defined an era and a style. The wit and charm he portrayed on screen could be measured in mega watts; he helped create the modern blockbuster.
“He will continue to influence actors and film-makers alike for years to come. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones. Wherever he is, I hope there is a golf course.”
Joining the No Time To Die actor in paying a tribute were also hundreds of other figures from the entertainment industry including Hugh Jackman, Salma Hayek, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Catherine Zeta-Jones.
“Sean Connery was a legend, one of the greatest actors of all time. He provided endless entertainment for all of us & inspiration for me,” Schwarzenegger, The Terminator actor and the former governor of California, wrote.
“I’m not just saying that because he was a bodybuilder who placed in the Mr. Universe contest! He was an icon. My thoughts are with his family.”
Referring to the 007 icon as her friend, Zeta-Jones, who starred alongside Connery in 1999 hit Entrapment, vowed to “cherish every moment” she shared with the actor as she paid her condolences to his family.
In his Twitter post, The Wolverine actor Hugh Jackman recalled how he idolized Connery when he was growing up. “I grew up idolizing #SeanConnery. A legend on screen, and off. Rest In Peace,” Jackman penned.
Sending words of support to Sean’s family during these hard times.
