A store has launched what appears to be one of the world’s first transgender dolls in an attempt to promote gender inclusivity.
The doll, which was spotted at a store called Planeta Igrushek in Russia, is believed to be the first toy of its kind whereas the female doll with blond hair and lipstick has male genitalia underneath the dress.
After the photos of the transgender female doll went viral, people couldn’t help but wonder whether the penis was put on the doll intentionally or by mistake.
As visible in one of the photos, the doll wearing a polka dot dress has a tiny willy hanging off her body.
While it is not clear if the doll was made transgender on purpose or not and when it was designed, internet users have quickly suggested it could be the world’s first trans doll.
Previously, in 2018, a similar type of doll divided the people after it appeared at a Toys R Us branch in Argentina. The following year, a company called Mattel also announced the launch of their own gender-neutral version of the Barbie doll.
After the transgender doll from Russia went viral, people were left divided whereas some supported the idea of gender inclusivity while others suggested it’s not appropriate to put such “ideas in minds of young children.”
“This is wrong on so many levels and can have serious effects on children too young to understand the matter,” someone said.
“While I support gender inclusivity and have nothing against trans individuals, I don’t think it’s right to promote gender changes to young kids,” another one added.
However, some people appeared impressed by the forward-thinking doll.
“I think it’s great and so do plenty of parents! People need to realize that it’s OKAY to be different and no feel guilty about it!!” someone wrote.
