“We have restricted swimming temporarily while we do the cleanup and as we try to locate where the diaper was buried,” Natividad Bernardino of the Boracay Interagency Rehabilitation Group said in an interview with ABS CBN.

“We are planning to give pamphlets through the airline on the do’s and don’ts on the island, especially on the proper way to throw garbage and policy against defecation at Boracay beach.”

“Whoever is the violator, whether a foreigner or Filipino, should be reprimanded, there are penalties involved.

“The good thing there is that Filipinos are conscious and they want to keep Boracay clean. If they see any wrongdoing, report it to us so we can reprimand those responsible swiftly because we cannot tolerate this.”

According to the witnesses, the women refused to listen when they were told not to bury the nappy in the sand.

After the photos of the incident went viral, viewers condemned the two women for the way they handled the situation.

“The island has rubbish bins placed along the beachfront and they really chose to bury it in the sand? They just acted like they were deaf and headed back to the water to continue washing the child,” one person wrote.
