Chick-fil-A set up for the first time in Toronto, Canada, on Friday.
The fast-food chain’s grand opening was greeted with protests from several left-wing activists.
Literation TO is a Toronto-based organization and is dedicated to achieving total nonhuman and human-animal liberation. It organized the demonstration along with The 519, a local LGTBQ2 advocacy group.
Liberation TO took to Facebook to post that Chick-fil-A has a record of being anti-LGBTQ2 and giving away donation to oppressive organizations. It also accused the fast food giant to be speciesist and use chickens for profit.
The post further read the Liberation TO wants to put a stop to that and end all oppression.
The organization also asked people to donate to animal sanctuaries and LGBTQ2 charities as a form of protest, along with attending the grand opening and boycotiing the grand opening.
The 519 quoted on their website that Chick-fil-A has provided millions of dollars to several anti-LGBTQ2 organization including famous hate groups and proponents of conversion therapy adding that they continue to do so each year.
They further said that many U.S. campuses, retail outlets and cities have denied allowing the fast-food chain to locate within their spaces have been verbal opponents of the chain’s hateful views.
The statement continued with asking Toronto and Canada to be next in the line.
Demonstrators were seen dressed in drags, holding signs, and lying on the ground to show a die-in outside the eatery as hundreds of customers were waiting in long queues to get their meals.
The customers began to line up four hours before the restaurant’s opening time, at 6:30 a.m. while The 519 handed out homemade signs with protesting slogans written on them.
The protestors shouted “shame” when customers exited the restaurant.
