A four-year-old girl, from Tacony, Philadelphia, sneaked out of her house and hopped on a Philadelphia bus at 3 am in search of a slushie.
Annabelle grabbed her purple coat, walked out the backdoor and four blocks down the street to a bus stop because all she wanted was a slushie in the middle of the night.
She hopped on a Philadelphia bus at 3 am.
Bus driver, Harlan Jenifer, got worried for the girl. Jenifer said that the girl was chanting: “All I want is a slushie!”
“Got to be kidding me! At this time, at 3 o’clock in the morning. She’s a small little thing. It kind of just shocked me.”
“All I want is a slushie, that’s all she said!” said Jenifer.
The bus driver stopped the bus and called the police.
They took her to the hospital where she reunited with her family who didn’t even know she went missing until they got a call from the hospital.
“Mom, can you take me to Wawa and get me a slushie?” Annabelle asked her mother, Jaclyn Mager.
“I will take you to Wawa and get you a slushie. But listen, promise me next time you’ll wait for me, okay?”, the mother replied.
“Yeah,” Annabelle said.
Her father, Timothy Ridgeway, told 6 ABC: “My mind is wanting to go places, it’s hard not to. Thank God for the bus driver.”
Her mother, Jaclyn, who couldn’t hold back her tears, said: “There are no words, (the bus driver) saved my daughter’s life. I’ll be forever grateful.”
The story went viral on the internet and divided the internet. Some found it funny while some advised her parents to be extra careful.
One user wrote: ‘Praise Jesus she is safe, and I guess it is time to put alarms on the doors so mommy and daddy can sleep better at night after this.’
Another wrote: ‘Kids wander. You don’t always hear them when you’re asleep. Put a flip-lock high up on the door and use it.’
The third one added: ‘Wow. She needs to be taught way more safety rules. I know she is only four but she still doesn’t seem to get that that was a bad thing to do. Mom and Dad need to be drilling safety.’
